What You Eat Has Never Been More Important Than It Is Now

COVID-19 And The New "Normal"

We are all living under conditions that we have never experienced in our lifetime. And, unfortunately, when things return to normal it will be a new normal for the foreseeable future. This is all due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The Coronavirus, something that most of us had never heard of prior to 2020, has turned every aspect of our lives upside down. It has impacted us financially, socially, emotionally, and psychologically. It has impacted how we live, our normal routines, who we spend time with, our sense of community and our sense of safety and security.

Now more than ever, it is essential that we do everything in our power to take care of ourselves so as to not get sick. It is our immune system that is our biggest defense. A compromised immune system at this time will compound our chances of getting sick with many different ailments.  If we do get one kind of illness or infection your immune system is that much weaker in its fight against this deadly Corona Virus.

The experts are saying that life will not return to “normal” until we identify a vaccine and have the appropriate testing and treatment to help protect us. That will take a long time! So, now and into the foreseeable future, the most important tool each of us individually has to protect ourselves is our diet.

Healthy Food Is A Good Start For Fighting Viruses

Yes, after not stepping outside your house at all, constant hand washing, and not touching your face (really, have you even tried to be aware of how frequently you do that?) what you eat is the weapon of choice. You see, it is what you eat that dictates how strong your immune system is, and how strong a fight it can wage on whatever infections come your way.

Without going into a whole lot of scientific data, if you eat processed foods, lots of refined sugar, or drink lots of sweet drinks, you are compromising your immune system.  There are 2 reasons for that. The first is that these foods wreak havoc on your digestive system, thereby robbing your body of the ability to efficiently break down the healthy foods you eat to utilize whatever nutrients you may be taking in. Secondly, if you are eating a lot of processed foods, then you are most likely not eating the majority of your calories with “whole foods” that provide the macro-nutrients (Protein, Carbohydrates, healthy Fats), and micro-nutrients (Vitamins and Minerals) that your body needs to keep things in balance and keep your immune system strong.

Don’t Tax Your Body’s Immune System With Stress

The stress that we are all experiencing in life during this pandemic is another factor. Unfortunately, processed foods affect our emotions and make it harder for us to feel we have control of our emotions and our stress level. If we are not eating a healthful diet, we will experience less energy, and an overall blasé attitude. This makes it harder to keep moving or engage in physical activity that is also important in impacting your stress level and emotions. Many of us are “stress eating” during this time. That is understandable, but if you keep healthful foods/snacks in the house, you will not be doing damage to yourself.

At this time, it is important that we keep our “social distance”, wash our hands, avoid touching our faces to protect ourselves and everyone around us! But it is equally important that we take care of ourselves by eating healthful, whole foods, and avoid junk food. Read the Ingredients Loaves and Big Bites offer the all-important all-natural whole food ingredients that keep your immunity boosted and working at its best! But if it’s not our Read The Ingredients products that you are eating, it is important to know what you are eating is going to support you and boost your immune system during these difficult times.
