Packaged vs. Processed

Packaged vs. Processed

Ten years ago when I figured out that I needed to make some lifestyle changes, particularly in how I ate, it was a major milestone and marked day almost as important as my birthday, wedding anniversary or the days my children were born. Why? Because like these events, this is a day that not only changed the journey and likely my health for the rest of my life, it forced me to be conscious of and accountable for my behavior around food.

HEALTHY TRAVEL FOOD

I could no longer leave my house for any length of time without being conscious of where/how I would eat if I were gone long enough to get hungry. Gone were the days that I could take advantage of living in a culture where we have at least one, if not several fast food joints at every intersection, or as many fast food selections in any mall as there are stores that are selling non-food items.

Yes, long before we had a thriving e-commerce industry we had become a culture of convenience! The corner grocery store that used to carry daily essentials of produce and animal proteins, has become the local liquor store (at least in CA) where you can get highly processed snacks. We now do our regular grocery shopping at supermarkets where the number of processed, packaged foods heavily outweigh the whole food staples.

CLEAN, CONVENIENT MEALS

This is why ten years ago I started being very conscious of being “on the road” at meal times, and knowing that this convenience to grab a quick meal/snack was no longer an option. I would go into the best of supermarkets (i.e. Whole Foods Market) and still find it difficult (or impossible?) to find something that I would choose to eat as a meal substitute that was convenient, clean and healthy.

PROTEIN BARS ARE NOT THE ANSWER

The thriving protein bar market was created to be that quick energy pick-me-up. Credit is often given to the Power Bar that was created in 1986 by a competitive athlete and marathoner. He died at age 51 of a heart attack; but, I digress. So, maybe the bar market did not deliver on the healthy energy source they’d like us to believe they are. There are differences among the thousands of different “bars” that are on the market, but what most of them have in common is that they are highly processed with sugar/sweeteners, stabilizers, and unhealthy ingredients. In other words they are the opposite of clean.

THE ANSWER IS THE SUPERLOAF

So, when I made my lifestyle changes and I was faced with quite a bit of travel, I knew I needed to figure out clean, packaged food that is not highly processed, that does not have added sugar/sweeteners.  For me these products needed to be packaged for convenience, gluten-free, include balanced and sufficient macro-nutrients and fiber, and for me, void of animal proteins … oh yeah, and taste great (which was never the case for me when trying different “energy bars”. Thus the Read The Ingredients Superloaf was born!

So, if you find yourself compromising the quality of the food you eat, and on your commitment to your healthy lifestyle … if you have given up on trying to find that packaged product that will support you, taste great and sustain you for hours … we got you!!  Grab a Read The Ingredients Superloaf Sample Pack and worry no more!
