Elements of a Healthy Natural Protein Bar (Part 2)

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the typical American diet exceeds the recommended intake of added sugars, refined grains, and saturated fat. If you think you’re not part of this statistic because you try to eat a healthy diet that includes protein shakes, meal bars, and protein bars, you might want to think twice. Most products in this category are packed with ingredients that are anything but healthy.

In our last blog, we discussed all of the good ingredients that you should look for in a healthy meal bar. Today, we are going to discuss the things that you’ll want to avoid. Keep reading below and then put our products to the test. Just one look at our ingredients and you’ll know that our meal bars are the best option out there.

The Bad Stuff

You might find several protein bars out there that contain good sources of protein and healthy fats, but what sets us apart from the others is what we don’t include in our bars. The next time you’re at the store, we would like to challenge you to take a look at a few products labels. When you read the ingredient statement you’ll most likely see things like brown rice syrup, cane syrup, or barley malt extract. These are all fancy ways of describing sugar.

Keep reading and you might see various oils, starches, and binders. If what you put into your body is important to you, then you need a better option. At Read The Ingredients, we want you to know that our bars are made with only the best ingredients from nature. Here are just a few of the ingredients that our natural protein bars don’t have:

Added Sweeteners

First and foremost, our products contain no added sweeteners. This means that you won’t find any kind of added sugar, honey, or other sweeteners. The American diet is already filled with too much sugar and unfortunately, much of the sugar in our diet is hidden in products that are marketed as being good for you. We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to worry when you choose our natural protein bars — we don’t add any sweeteners to any of our products.

Preservatives

As we mentioned earlier, the best food is the food that comes straight from nature. Once you start messing with what Mother Nature gave you, the quality of your food diminishes. If you’ve shopped our site, you know that all of our loaves and big bites are kept frozen until you’re ready to eat them. This is because we don’t add any preservatives to our bars. Would you rather grab one of those bars that have been sitting on your store shelf for the past 6 months? How good can it really be for you if it has been packed with preservatives to make sure it lasts for months on end at room temperature (or even during the hot summer months?

No Gluten or Dairy

Many people choose to avoid gluten or dairy in their diet. You may have read that these ingredients may not be good for you and can cause health issues. For some people, gluten and dairy are avoided because their bodies have a very real allergic reaction to them. Regardless of why you choose to avoid gluten or dairy, you can be rest assured that our products are completely free of both.

Choose Read The Ingredients

Our company was started by people just like you. We were looking for healthy on-the-go meal and snack options that were not only good for us, but tasted good too. When we started reading labels and tasting the products that are out there, we were disappointed at what we found. That discovery fueled a desire to create our own products and share them with the world around us. We believe that we’ve created the perfect bar — one that is made with real food and none of the other ingredients you don’t want. Plus, it doesn’t have the pasty, chalky consistency that you might find in other bars.

As you juggle all of the elements of your busy life, we hope that you’ll take just a little bit of time to stop and compare the ingredients in our products and some of the others you see on the shelf. Once you become more aware of what you are eating, you’ll seek out better options that can fuel your body and give you improved energy and focus.

Lifestyle – The Antidote of Stress
Lifestyle – The Antidote of Stress

November 18, 2020

If my theory is correct, then how do we deal with the stress of these “new normal” lives we are finding ourselves living. The answer is LIFESTYLE. In my opinion, Lifestyle = Diet + Sleep + Exercise + Gratitude + Routine Stress Management.
"Off The Couch" Half Ironman

October 27, 2020

...I saw a fellow cyclist post a video of an “Off The Couch Ironman” and thought to myself ‘that looks miserable’ (“Off The Couch” meaning he didn’t do any running or swimming training). But I couldn’t get the thought out of my head – he set a goal to see if his body and mind could endure what seems like a nearly impossible feat. And he did it. Then I started wondering if I could do it. And the idea started to get legs…
Breakfast: The most important meal of the day?
Breakfast: The most important meal of the day?

September 16, 2020

Scientific studies have shown that eating breakfast sends a message to your body that there will be plenty of fuel to burn for the day. This is important because the alternative is that your body will go into a “starvation state” and slow down certain functions in order to preserve energy for necessary executive functions.
